mean girls

I can't believe it, but there seems to be an epidemic of mean girls. We all know them. They're catty, jealous and petty. They treat people like their subjects and they move with manifest destiny, consuming whatever they desire like locusts. They are adept at gossiping, forming cliques, bullying and backstabbing, the stock tools of mean girls...and they revel in meanness. As ridiculous as it should seem, I know two sets of mean girls.
The first set that we'll tackle are the ones who initially inspired me to write this, the mean girls at my job. There are two young women who have taken it upon themselves to make life at work miserable for at least one of my other co-workers, or at least try their damndest. One is even in a position of power and authority, which she abuses like a megalomaniacal student-body president, and the other is her loyal-enough crony. They use their influence to block promotions and raises, ensuring spots for their friends and lackies, thereby perpetuating the mean girl-cycle. This is the existence of the Plaza mean girl.
The second set of mean girls live on the first floor of my building...well, one does. She constantly lashes out at another neighbor with impunity and without any real and justifiable cause. She will also draw any company that she has over into the fray, be it sister, cousin or friend. They have vandalized property and threatened violence. These are hoodrat mean girls.
The label of ridiculous is verified by the fact that all of the aforementioned mean girls are- with one exception- of legal drinking age, far too old to be engaged in the the meanness which seems to be innate for them.

  1. I think that a lot of the meanness is gone or was initially misinterpreted. There is still some enmity. However, I remain hopeful.
